Phones in China come without Google Play Services. This includes all Google Apps. You do not have the Play Store, Play Music, Play Books, or any other Google Apps on your phone. Not even the basic Calendar and Google Contacts Sync is there. To install and run the Google Apps on your Huawei and Honor Chinese phones, you need the Core GMS package. The Core GMS is the Core Google Mobile Services framework. The GMS framework is responsible for letting all Google Apps run flawlessly on an Android phone. From here, you can download the Google Core GMS for Huawei and Honor Chinese phones. I will also show you the steps to install the Core GMS on Huawei and Honor phones. Let’s learn a little more about Core GMS before you get your hands on it.
GMS – Google Mobile Services
Google Mobile Services is basically a collection of applications and APIs that work across an Android device. The idea of GMS is to let those apps and APIs run flawlessly, without errors across your device. All Android phones are equipped with the core GMS package by default, but the scenario is a bit different for Chinese Android phones.
The Chinese Phone makers turn a blind eye towards Google Mobile Services when it comes to launching phones for their own region. For example, the phones in China by Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and others do not have the basic Google Apps.
The GMS is also used to run apps like Google Chrome, YouTube, and Google Search on your Android phone. Since Android is an open-source operating system, Google allows vendors to install the GMS separately on their systems. For example, you can install the entire GMS alongside the Google Apps on a custom ROM separately. The same goes for Android phones without GMS. You can download GMS manually, and install it on a Chinese Android phone given that you are using that Chinese phone outside China.
You may actually run the Google Apps inside China too, but for that, you will have to use a good VPN. Without a VPN, the internet-based apps will fail to load.
Why no GMS in Chinese phones?
So, why does China block these apps? The answer is simple. It is internet censorship which forces phone manufacturers to equip phones with the government-allowed apps only. The government in China controls every bit of information. Nothing called freedom exists in China. Chinese phone consumers do not even have the right to information. China doesn’t trust the apps built by US companies either. As a result, it has banned all popular platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, All Apps by Google, and many other such platforms.
Assuming that you know what is GMS and why you don’t have it in a Chinese phone, go ahead and download it right now.
